Buro Happold

Shannon Casares is a structural engineer at Buro Happold in New York. She completed her graduate studies at Stanford University in structural engineering, specializing in earthquake engineering and performance-based design. Shannon has been involved with EERI since 2013 through the Undergraduate Seismic Design Competition, and she became a member and Co-President of EERI’s Student Leadership Committee in graduate school. Post-university, Shannon joined the Younger Members Committee, which led her to the World Housing Encyclopedia. Shannon believes that improving community resilience to earthquakes depends on increasing local knowledge of best-practices for house construction in seismically active areas, especially in developing countries where most homes are built by the home-owners.
