Dominik H. Lang is the Director of NGI’s Market area Natural Hazards and an internationally recognized expert in earthquake engineering, engineering seismology and seismic risk assessment. He has more than 20 years of experience of actively working in earthquake-affected regions in many parts of the world including all over Europe, Central Asia (Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan), India, Bhutan, Central America (Guatemala, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Panama), the Caribbean (Venezuela, Haiti, Cuba), and North America. During his entire career, Dr Lang has been working towards earthquake disaster risk mitigation including the development of rapid screening techniques addressing the structural and non-structural vulnerability of residential buildings, schools and hospitals, software tools for earthquake damage and loss estimation as well as for the geographical illustration of these results, conceptualization and installation of earthquake monitoring networks as well as near-real-time earthquake loss information systems.
