Jitendra is Technical Director of Seismic Engineering at Miyamoto Impact in Christchurch. Prior to that he was a Principal Seismic Engineer with AECOM New Zealand Ltd also based in Christchurch. He is directly involved with rebuild of the city that was devastated by the Canterbury earthquake sequence. He has worked in Nepal, New Zealand and many other earthquake-prone countries. He specialises in seismic risk mitigation.
His interests include translation of complex engineering concepts on earthquake safety into implementation tools, socio-economic issues, dissemination of earthquake resistant technology and non-engineered construction.
He is an ardent believer in identifying strong linkages between social and seismic engineering to help implement seismic protection.
He has worked on development of building codes and regulations, design and construction of earthquake resistant structures, disaster risk management and planning, capacity building in earthquake-resistant construction, and led teams for post-earthquake building safety evaluation and reconstruction. He has developed various manuals, guidelines, tutorials and lectured extensively on earthquake resistant design and construction.
